During the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic when medical students were suspended from clinical rotations, Mary founded a Critical Care Scribe Program for students to be volunteer scribes in the GWU Hospital Intensive Care Units. This year, she will be applying to Ob/Gyn residency programs to continue her training as a physician with the goals of providing high quality patient care, combatting health disparities, reducing maternal mortality and morbidity rates, and advocating for reproductive justice.

Mary graduated cum laude with college and departmental honors from UCLA in 2014 with a B.S. in Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics and a minor in Classical Civilizations. Prior to medical school matriculation, she worked for two years as an Emergency Department Medical Scribe and Trainer at the Northridge Hospital Medical Center.

While at UCLA, Mary joined the American Medical Students Association in her first year and went on to serve on the Global Health Committee, as Vice President, and as Student Advisor. As a member of the Alumni Scholars Club, she volunteered in various campus wide and community projects included events for Locks for Love, Thank UCLA Day, and the Westwood Organized Meaningful Projects (WOMP). Throughout this time, she also volunteered as a Clinical Care Extender at the Glendale Adventist Medical Center.

Mary received the Ehrlich Alumni Scholarship in 2010 and simultaneously gained a lasting community of fellow scholars who continue to inspire, teach, and motivate one another. She continues to cherish this gift and enjoys serving as a mentor to younger scholars.
